School Work

I have very limited wall space for my students to know what's been going on in class. I also have a number of students that are heading out on vacation early and need to know their assignments before they leave.

My remedy was to cover my window to my prep room with white paper on one side.

This enabled me to write on the other side with white board markers. I tried it first before I committed to writing it all.

Physics class has their schedule and worksheets planned until Finals. I took a picture to post to Edmodo. I send reminder texts through remind.com to remind them of assignments. I set up a series to keep them up to date with their work.

Chemistry 3rd bell is planned and ready to go!

5th and 6th period chemistry good to go!

And my physical science class!

I like spending a day or two and getting a head of my planning. Its been a struggle to get a head. I don't get many days off and sometimes have to attend inservice on Saturdays. It feels good to be ahead of the game for once this semester.

If you know me you know that during Christmas break I will do the same thing and will have the first half of the quarter planned, copies made and grade book fixed.

Picture of the outside at 4 or 5pm. The random dot in the middle of the sky is the moon.

Thanksgiving weekend pictures!

This is a collection of the photos that we took during Thanksgiving weekend.

The sea ice is back and the shore ice is forming quite nicely.

The road towards Ilisagvik College.

Ilisagvik College, the most northern college in the US.

You can't see it very well, but this is a snow covered whale skull.

Football field is buried.

Score board is covered in snow.

I made sure that Abi zoomed out to get the sky in the background. The colors of the sky are beautiful up here.

More sea ice and you can't see it very well, but there's people out on the ice... seal hunting!

Sea ice

Cake Eater Road towards town.

 Sea ice... again.

This is the part of the beach that you used to walk on all the time.

Frozen gas station is still open at $7 a gallon.

Arctic Coast Trading Post, aka ACTP, is open again.

Frozen playground.

Browerville side of town by Laura Madison ave.

This was taken at 1pm and as you can see its not completely dark without the sun.

Abi loves the sushi there.

Happy Girl!

Its not what you think. The sky just looked amazing on Friday night.

Insert comment about how good the salesman at the  Arctic grocery is.

Georgia had to slide down the hill just one time.

Kid's write the silliest things...

This was part of Georgia's take home papers. I really don't know what to say to this other than me too or should I ask why she is touching poop?

Thanksgiving! and Black Friday!

Thanksgiving is celebrated differently than down south. Everyone goes to church on Thanksgiving for a feast. Whale is served along side the turkey. The only church that I know of that wasn't having a feast was St. Patrick's. I have not visited this church yet. I spoke to someone at the AC about where to go on Thanksgiving. She told me anywhere and they all had lots of food to share.

We spent Thanksgiving Day sleeping in and wearing pjs for most of the day. We have been fighting colds and stomach bugs. Everyone just needed rest. It felt good to sleep in until 8am and not have to worry about work.

Black Friday shopping is very different. The AC store opened at regular time. There were some good deals but they are the same deals that are happening all week. They had 24 pack of ramen on sale for $11.49. I couldn't pass that up. The girls love ramen noodles, but we throw the season packets in the trash. We boil the noodles and add frozen veggies to the boiling water. When its finished we add a few drops of soy sauce. Bacon, sausage and fruit juice was marked 50% off. Sold. I'm thinking about going back today and buying a set of flannel sheets for my upcoming birthday present.

Saturday is the mini lock in for Science Olympiad. I will take lots of pictures of it.

Sunday is my last day off and I have to go into work to set up some stuff for next week. I'm working on a new spot to display my vocabulary words.

Throw Back Thursday....

While digging through my wallet, I found this. It was a reminder message for me to write something for a student at my old school. He was giving himself to God and I was going to help by writing a letter of encouragement. I think it was a chrysalis letter. I covered the name, but I still have not forgotten this student.

It was a perfect throw back Thursday memory.

Let's dance

Big Bear Petroleum had a Community Information Night about new drill wells. They had free pizza and drinks. While we were eating, we noticed a group of students that were having dance practice.

They did an invitational dance and many Elder women came to dance with the younger girls. Georgia and I joined the group and danced with them. Its an easy dance to do. Words don't describe the feeling that you get when you look around and you see so many different generations continuing the tradition of dance. We are so lucky to be part of the community.

I snapped a picture. Then the girls wanted me to video it.

Tuzzy Library!

Saturday afternoon (2pm) sun. It's not completely dark, but you get the picture. The sun doesn't come up over the horizon. It stays below and we get some kind of daylight.

Today Tuzzy Library had a special guest author and illustrator. Abigale is interested in writing and any time I can get her to meet an author, she's there!

She had a blast!

Later that night there was a potluck at the library for a special family night of events. There was a drawing for prizes and more. We love Tuzzy and enjoy being part of the activities with Tuzzy.

Friday night!

Friday night 11/21/14 @4:39pm! That's the end of the sun. It didn't come up over the horizon.

It feels strange and unnatural to not have the sun and to not be able to see sun when I leave work at 4:30!

Friday night entertainment... FrostBite Invitational!

Go Whalers!

1st Quarter Awards Ceremony

This is the first quarter awards ceremony.

Emily was on the Superintendent's List because she got a 4.0.

Abi also got awards for her all A's and one B!

They are both getting so big!

And one more night to night cook...

The night after Sweet Suites, we had another dinner. It was Staff Appreciation/Thanksgiving Dinner. (I loved it because I didn't have to cook or do dishes.)
